Lemurs Win Third In a Row

Grand Prairie, TX - A combined team effort helps move the Laredo Lemurs closer to the Grand Prairie Airhogs by beating them tonight 5-3 at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The Lemurs got on the board first in the top of the third with a one out walk to Brian Peterson. That walk led to three straight Lemurs hits, and three runs coming in to score for a 3-0 Lemurs lead.

The Airhogs would strike in the bottom of the third with a two spot of their own. With one out, Keanon Simon walked and stole second base. Jonny Kaplan doubled to put runners at second and third, a wild pitch would bring in Simon and Kaplan would score on a double by Chris McMurray to make it a 3-2 Lemurs lead after three.

The Lemurs would score two more in the fifth with the rally being starting by Stephen Douglas with a single. The next batter, Jimmy Mojica tripled to bring in Douglas and make it 4-2 Lemurs. With Mojica on third, Palmer Karr Jr. would ground out to first and Mojica would score from third on the play to give the Lemurs a 5-2 lead.

Leonard Giammanco was great in relief for Tony Butler. Giammanco came into the game with runners at first and second and one down in the fourth, he threw one pitch to Jonny Kaplan who hit into a five, four, three, double play to end the inning.

Giammanco would go one and earn the win for the Lemurs throwing four, giving up one run, one three hits, while striking out two.

Mike Benacka pitched for the third day in a row, throwing a three up and three down ninth, to earn his six save of the season.

With the win the Lemurs are now five and half games back in the American Association South division.

The Lemurs will be on the road for an 11 game trip that will take them to Lincoln, Nebraska, Grand Prairie, Texas, and El Paso, Texas, for their longest trip of the year.
