
RailCats Split Doubleheader with Saints

GARY, Ind. - The RailCats and Saints split a doubleheader Sunday, with the RailCats winning game one 7-5 and dropping game two 5-2. The RailCats now sit at 33-41 on the season.
The RailCats, who had scored seven runs in the sixth inning in Friday night's victory, scored three in the sixth inning to take game one of the doubleheader. Trailing 5-4 entering the inning, Kenny Bryant and Chris Carrara drew back-to-back walks and were bunted over by David Cooper. Adam Klein delivered a two-run single to give the RailCats the lead. Mike Coles added an RBI single to score Klein and make it 7-5.
Ole Sheldon hit a sac fly to give St. Paul a 1-0 lead in the first. The RailCats answered in the bottom of the inning as Adam Klein led off with a single and scored on a double by Mike Massaro. Newcomer Tomochika Tsuboi then rolled a double down the third-base line in his first at-bat as a RailCat to put the 'Cats ahead 2-1.
The Saints scored a run in the top of the second and then Kenny Bryant tripled to lead off the bottom of the inning for the RailCats. Chris Carrara hit a line-drive single to right to score Bryant and give the RailCats a 3-2 lead.
Jose Hernandez hit a run-scoring single in the third to tie the game at three. The 'Cats again would respond in the bottom half of the inning, this time on a two-out RBI single by Brian Kolb to go ahead 4-3.
St. Paul would tie it again in the fourth on an RBI single by Jim Rapoport. The Saints scored a single run in each of the first four innings. They took the lead on a sac fly by Jon Townsend in the sixth inning.
RailCats starter Alberto Rolon, making his RailCats debut, allowed four runs on six hits in four innings and did not factor in the decision. Marshall Schuler (1-1) gave up a run in one inning for the win, and Marco Gonzalez recorded the final two outs for his second save.
Jose Hernandez and Miles Durham hit back-to-back RBI singles in the first inning of game two off of RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage. They tacked on a run in the second on a run-scoring single by Jim Rapoport.
The RailCats got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Kenny Bryant to cut the deficit to 3-2. The runs were the first scored against Saints starter Robert Coe in 20 innings of work.
Hernandez and Rapoport added RBI singles in the fifth and sixth, respectively, to increase the lead to 5-2.
Hiscock (3-5) allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings. Coe (10-3) held the RailCats to two runs on three hits in five innings of work, despite walking seven.
The series finale is Monday night with first pitch set for 7:10 PM. Jon Gulbransen (2-1, 3.42) will take the ball for the RailCats. No starter has been announced for the Saints.
