El Paso Diablos News Release

AMARILLO, TX- The Diablos pounded out 14 hits, including home runs from Maikol Gonzalez and Mitch Einertson as El Paso won its second straight series in Amarillo with a 9-1 victory at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Gonzalez hit the third pitch of the game from Sox starter Justin Garcia (7-3) over the left field fence for his fifth homer of the year and his third leadoff shot in 2012 to give the Diablos an early 1-0 lead. The Sox would tie the score in the fourth, but Van Pope's RBI double proved to be the only run Amarillo would plate against David Casillas (4-0).

Casillas went six innings, allowing the one run on just three hits in earning his fourth victory of the year. Steven Evarts and Marcel Prado pitched three scoreless frames to close out the game.

El Paso jumped ahead for good in the fifth when Mitch Einertson's bloop fell in for extra bases, scoring two runs and giving the Diablos a 3-1 advantage. Welington Dotel's RBI hit later in the inning pushed the lead to 4-1.

Up 7-1 in the eighth, Einertson blasted an offering from Chad Povich over the wall in left for a two run home run to complete the scoring.

The win gave El Paso the series victory and moved the club's record to 33-38. The Diablos have a day off Monday before resuming play against the Laredo Lemurs on 7:05 p.m. (MST) on Tuesday.
