Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Dayton, OH - On a long night at the ballpark, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (34-29) outslugged the Dayton Dragons (26-38) in a 14-5 win at Fifth Third Field that finished after midnight on Wednesday morning. Tyler Goeddel had his first four-hit game of the season as the Hot Rods set season-highs with 14 runs and 20 hits. Despite the victory, Bowling Green was eliminated from playoff contention in the season's first half by a Fort Wayne win earlier in the evening.

Before the weather made its impact, Bowling Green was off to a solid start. Luke Maile hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Andrew Toles and move Joey Rickard to third base. Rickard scored on a passed ball by Brandon Dailey that brought the lead to 2-0. RHP Jeff Ames struck out two batters while retiring the side in the home half of the first.

The Hot Rods were scoreless in the top of the second before a strong downpour started a rain delay that lasted more than two hours. Upon resumption of the game, Dayton took advantage of a two-out Hot Rods error to score its first runs and grab a 4-2 advantage during the bottom of the second.

Bowling Green quickly regained the lead in the third inning. Tommy Coyle hit the first of his two doubles to lead off the frame. Coyle advanced on a groundout by Maile and scored on a single from Goeddel. Justin O'Conner followed with a two-run home run off the batter's eye in center field, surging the Hot Rods ahead of the Dragons, 5-4.

Coyle, Maile, and Goeddel recorded back-to-back-to-back hits in the fourth to bring in two more runs and produce a 7-4 edge. Dayton was able to answer with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning, but it was the last scoring for the Dragons in the contest.

The Hot Rods scored seven runs over the last five innings to finish the scoring for the game. Ryan Dunn snapped a hitting drought with a two-run blast to left-center field in the fifth. In the following inning, Goeddel, O'Conner, and Patrick Leonard came across home plate to give Bowling Green a 12-5 lead. Maile and Goeddel added RBI hits in the ninth for the nine-run margin of victory. During the contest, all nine Hot Rods had at least one base hit, with Goeddel's four safeties leading all performers.

The series will continue with game two between the Hot Rods and Dragons scheduled for 6:00 PM CDT on Wednesday at Fifth Third Field. Bowling Green LHP Blake Snell (1-5, 4.14) is slated to pitch against Dayton RHP Sal Romano (4-6, 4.73). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Chris Kleinhans-Schulz starts at 5:30 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340WBGN.com).
