Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Tyler Goeddel collected four hits while Justin O'Conner and Ryan Dunn each hit two-run home runs as the Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 14-5 on Tuesday night. The game featured a rain delay of two hours, 11 minutes in the second inning.
Bowling Green scored two runs in the top of the first inning and led 2-0 when the game was stopped before the Dragons came to bat in the second. After the rain delay, the Dragons came out swinging, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead. The rally began when Seth Mejias-Brean lined a single to left and Jeff Gelalich singled to right. One batter later, Mejias-Brean scored on an error to make it 2-1. Brandon Dailey's base hit to right brought in Gelalich to tie the score, and Beau Amaral singled to right to give Dayton the lead. Zach Vincej then doubled to left to drive in Dailey and make it 4-2.
But Bowling Green quickly regained the lead, scoring three runs in the third. O'Conner's home run off the batter's eye in straight-away center gave them a 5-4 lead. The Hot Rods added two more in the top of the fourth to lead 7-4 before Dayton's Joe Terry singled to bring in a run in the bottom of the inning and make it 7-5. But Dunn's two-run homer in the fifth made it 9-5 and the Hot Rods added three more in the sixth to take a commanding 12-5 lead. They tacked on two more in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Ismael Guillon worked the first two innings before leaving the game after the rain delay. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and one strikeout. Wes Mugarian (0-1) replaced Guillon to begin the third and suffered the loss. He worked three innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs with two walks and one strikeout. Wandy Peralta closed it out for the Dragons, going four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Dragons finished with nine hits. Vincej had a double, triple and one RBI. Terry also had two hits and an RBI. The Dragons were 5 for 12 with runners in scoring position.
The Dragons host the Hot Rods again on Wednesday at Fifth Third Field at 7:00 p.m. in the second game of the three-game series. Sal Romano (4-6, 4.73) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Blake Snell (1-5, 4.14).
