Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Dayton, OH - Justin O'Conner hit a home run for the third consecutive game as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (35-29) extended their win streak in an 11-6 triumph over the Dayton Dragons (26-39) at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday. O'Conner's blast came at the end of a season-high seven-run rally in the third inning. The victory was the fourth in a row to start this Hot Rods road trip.
Dayton started the scoring by grabbing an early lead on Bowling Green. Daniel Pigott reached on an error to lead off the opening inning. A Beau Amaral single and double steal put Pigott at third base, where he came in due to a ground out from Seth Mejias-Brean for a 1-0 Dragons lead.
Bowling Green wiped out the Dayton advantage with a huge surge in the third inning. Andrew Toles hit a double that brought in Ryan Dunn to tie the contest. Tyler Goeddel followed with a single to score Brandon Martin that gave the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead. After Toles and Goeddel executed a double steal, both runners scored with Tommy Coyle bouncing a single through the middle. Luke Maile also reached successfully with a single that set the stage for O'Conner.
O'Conner wasted no time by going after the first pitch from RHP Sal Romano and sending it deep to left-center field. The blast was a three-run homer that landed just underneath the scoreboard. O'Conner's home run ended the scoring during the third inning, with all of the runs coming in before the Dragons defense recorded an out.
Both teams provided plenty of offense after the explosive third inning wrapped up. Brandon Dailey hit a solo home run for Dayton in the fifth to cut the deficit down to 7-2. Bowling Green answered with two runs in the top of the sixth inning before the Dragons responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Dayton and Bowling Green each found the scoreboard again over the final innings. Marty Gantt singled to start the seventh inning and promptly scored on a double from Patrick Leonard. During Dayton's half of the inning, Joe Terry's sacrifice fly plated Junior Arias to put Dayton within four runs. Bowling Green brought in one more score during the last inning as Leonard came home with a single off the bat of Toles.
Bowling Green will aim for a sweep of Dayton in Thursday's finale at Fifth Third Field. The scheduled pitchers for this match-up are Hot Rods RHP Dylan Floro (4-2, 2.21) and Dragons LHP Joel Bender (0-2, 5.26). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Chris Kleinhans-Schulz starts at 5:30 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340WBGN.com).
