Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Justin O'Conner belted a three-run home run as part of a seven-run third inning and the Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 11-6 on Wednesday night. The Hot Rods have won the first two games of the set and four straight overall.
O'Conner, who has now connected on a home run in four of his last five games including both games in the series in Dayton, capped off the inning as the Hot Rods built a 7-1 lead. The Dragons battled back to get within four runs at 9-5 and 10-6 but Bowling Green held on for the win.
Brandon Dailey led the Dragons attack with a solo home run in the fifth inning and a run-scoring single in the sixth. The Dragons trailed 9-2 in the bottom of the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out and received bases-loaded walks to Tanner Rahier and Zach Vincej followed by Dailey's RBI single to make it 9-5, but Bowling Green's Nick Sawyer got the next two hitters to strand three and keep his team ahead by four runs.
Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano (4-7) worked the first five innings and suffered the loss. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts. All seven runs against Romano came in the third. Jesus Adames replaced Romano to begin the sixth and pitched one inning, allowing three runs on three hits with five walks and one strikeout. Tony Amezcua did an excellent job in relief of Adames, entering the game with the bases loaded and no one out in the seventh and pitching out of the jam. Amezcua went three innings, allowing two hits and one run with no walks and four strikeouts.
The Dragons finished with 12 hits. Dailey was 2 for 3 with two RBI. Seth Mejias-Brean, Joe Terry, and Jeff Gelalich also contributed two hits. Mejias-Brean extended his hitting streak to seven straight games and Beau Amaral had one hit to push his hitting streak to six games.
The Dragons host the Hot Rods again on Thursday at Fifth Third Field at 7:00 p.m. in the series finale. Cincinnati native Joel Bender (0-2, 5.26) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Dylan Floro (4-2, 2.21). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372). All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.
