Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The come-back wins at Ashford University Field are becoming a norm for the LumberKings. Clinton rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the eighth inning and Janelfry Zorrilla delivered a sacrifice fly to score Gaby Guerrero in the bottom of the ninth to give Clinton a 3-2 win on Wednesday.

LumberKings starter Matt Anderson limited the Chiefs to just one unearned run over six innings in his third straight quality start.

Zorrilla evened the game at 1-1 with a solo blast on Cory Jones' first pitch of the sixth inning. The score remained tied until the eighth when Peoria took the lead.

Jacob Wilson hit a one-out, solo blast to straight away center off Jochi Ogando to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.

It didn't take long for the LumberKings to rally. Tim Lopes led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and moved to second on Zorrilla's bunt single. With the corners drawn in expecting bunt, Ketel Marte hit a chopper over the head of first baseman Jeremy Schaffer to score Lopes and even the score. Zorrilla was left stranded at third as it remained 2-2 into the ninth.

Matt Vedo worked around a lead-off single by Jimmy Parque and delivered a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

In the bottom half, Guerrero led off with a single into right field. He moved to third on Jordy Lara's double that was just past a diving effort from Parque in right field. Peoria elected to intentionally walk Lopes to load the bases. It didn't matter when Zorrilla delivered a fly ball to score Guerrero and give the LumberKings a walk-off, 3-2 win.

It's the sixth walk-off win for Clinton in the first half with the final home game on Thursday. The LumberKings try for their second series sweep of the year at 7:00 CT. They send left-hander Scott DeCecco (5-5, 4.00) to the mound against Chiefs' lefty Kyle Helisek (4-2, 3.93).
