Lake County Captains News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Lake County Captains slugged ten extra base hits including four homeruns, five doubles and one triple en route to the 11-0 blow out win over Fort Wayne. Erik Gonzalez, Leonardo Castillo, Richard Stock and Joe Sever all hit homeruns for the Captains on Wednesday Night. The win snapped the Captains seven game losing streak and also put an end to a nine game winning streak from Fort Wayne.
Richard Stock hit a solo homerun to RF in the top of the fourth inning and Lake County led 1-0. The homer was the first of four by the Captains on Wednesday.
The big inning for the Captains was the top of the fifth inning. Lake County sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven times. In the inning the Captains hit for the cycle as a team. There were three singles, a double by Leonardo Castillo, a triple from Jeremy Lucas and the homerun came from Joe Sever. After the inning it was 8-0 Captains.
Erik Gonzalez hit a homerun in the sixth inning and the score was 9-0 Captains. In the eighth, Leo Castillo homered and then Erik Gonzalez struck out. Strike Three was in the dirt so Gonzalez advanced to first base and motored to third when the throw to put him out sailed down the right field line. Dorssys Paulino doubled him home and the score was 11-0 Captains headed to the ninth. That was the final.
Dylan Baker started the game for the Captains and earned the win. Baker (2-5) pitched six and two third innings, allowing just two hits, three walks and two wild pitches. Baker struck out four. Josh Martin pitched one and one third innings of scoreless ball and Louis Head allowed two hits but pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout.
Fort Wayne sent Bryan Rodriguez to the mound to start the game. Rodriguez (1-1) took the loss. He pitched four and two thirds innings allowing nine hits, eight runs, five earned runs, two walks and he struck out one. The TinCaps bull pen allowed three runs in the remainder of the ballgame.
Lake County will wrap up the final road trip of the first half with a 7:05 game in Fort Wayne on Thursday. The Captains will start RHP Jake Sisco (2-5, 3.42) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Walker Weickel (1-3, 5.60).
