Glads Can't Solve Riopel, Fall 3-1
November 5, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Nic Riopel carried over his hot streak from last week, stopping 32 of 33 shots to lead Greenville to a 3-1 win over Gwinnett Friday night at the Bi-Lo Center.
Greenville (4-1-1-0) scored three unanswered goals over the last two periods after falling behind in the first.
Mike Forney scored his first goal of the season at the 16:53 mark, as Matt Francis and Tim Miller got the puck down the right wing side and Forney beat the defense with his speed and put the puck by Riopel top shelf for a 1-0 Gladiators (5-2-0-2) lead.
Greenvile tied the game early in the second. Chris Morehouse, in his first game with the Road Warriors, fed Brendan Connolley at the far circle and the center rifled a shot over Crhis Carrozzi's glove to pull Greenville even at the 2:38 mark.
Carrozzi played well in a losing cause, making 34 saves.
Justin Bowers gave Greenville their first lead 4:02 into the third, beating Carrozzi high blocker side from the slot to make it a 2-1 game. Gwinnett had two powerplays and several opportunities late to tie, but Riopel turned them away and Marc-Olivier Vallerand chipped in a late tally for a 3-1 final.
Gwinnett took just one penalty, but went 0-for-5 on the man advantage dropping their second game in regulation this season.
Both teams head to Gwinnet tomorrow night at 7:05 for a rematch at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
