Aces Shut out Reign 1-0

27 saves from Gerald Coleman and a Scott Howes goal midway through the second period, helped the Alaska Aces shut out the Ontario Reign 1-0 on Thursday night, giving the Aces their third shutout win in the last four games. The Aces improved to 6-2 on the season, and moved into a first place tie with Victoria Salmon Kings for first place in the Western Conference and Mountain Division. The Aces will finish their five-game road trip on Saturday with a rematch in Ontario at 6:00pm AKST. All games can be heard on the radio home of Aces hockey, NewsTalk 750AM KFQD. The teams opened with a scoreless first period, and Coleman immediately made several big saves early in the hockey game. The Reign outshot the Aces 14-10 in the first.

The Aces got all the offense they would need in the second period. Scott Howes scored his third goal of the season, and sixth point in just five games since joining Alaska. The goal came assisted from Brian Swanson at 12:24. The Reign outshot the Aces 8-7 in the period.

Coleman and the Aces closed the door in the third period to hold on for the victory, as Alaska limited Ontario to just five third period shots. Coleman has now stopped 104 of the last 110 shots he's faced.

Coleman (5-2) made 27 saves on 27 shots, earning his second shutout of the season. Kellen Briggs (1-4-0-1) took the loss, with 24 saves on 25 shots. The Aces power play went 0-1, while the Reign went 0-3. The Aces were outshot by the Reign 27-25.
