Gladiators Weekly Update For February 8th

3's a Charm: The Gladiators set a season-high mark of three straight wins with a victory over the Toledo Walleye on Saturday night. They also recorded back-to-back home-ice wins for just the second time all season with their victories over the Walleye Friday and Saturday nights.

On the Plus Side: Sam Roberts (+5) is the only skater on the active roster with a positive plus-minus rating.

Captain Berti: Forward and newly named Captain, Adam Berti (12 goals, 29 assists), leads the team with 41 points and is the first Gladiator to eclipse the 40-point mark this season.

Let's go Streaking: Forward Dan Sullivan has a career-best 7-game point streak with 3 goals and 6 assists. Forward Scott Mifsud has a 6-game point streak with 4 goals and 7 assists. Defenseman Nick St. Pierre has an assist in both of the games he has appeared in with the Gladiators. Forward Chris Higgins has 11 points in his last 10 games with the Gladiators, including 5 power play goals.

Between the Pipes: Goaltender Danny Taylor has won three consecutive games and is 4-1-0-0 in his last five starts with a.926 save percentage and 2.60 goals against average in that span

Special Teams: The Gladiators reclaimed the American Conference's top power play percentage (21.7) from the Toledo Walleye, as they finished the weekend 5-for-12 in two games, while the Walleye went 4-for-14 in three contests. The Gladiators also lead the league in road penalty kills with 88.3% killed off.

5 Alive: The Gladiators are 11-1-0-1 when scoring at least five goals. They also are 14-4-2-0 when leading after one period and 14-2-1-0 when leading after 2 periods.

Stingy: Gwinnett is 13-0 when holding opponents to less than three goals and 18-5 when holding opponents under four goals.

Cellar: The Gladiators remain in last place in the South Division with 49 points through 46 games. They are currently five points out of a playoff berth, but have two games in hand on both Toledo and Florida, who have 54 points apiece and occupy the seventh and eighth place spots respectively.

Blueliners: Drew Paris leads all rookie defensemen with 28 points, while Sam Roberts is second with 27.

Red Light District: The Gladiators are one of just three teams in the league to have not suffered a shutout all season. Cincinnati and Elmira are the other two.

Last Week's Games: - February 5, Gwinnett 5, Toledo 3 - W The Gladiators had goals from Dan Sullivan, Adam Berti and two from Michael Forney to open up a 4-1 lead in the third before the Walleye got back to within one. Tim Miller sealed the win with an empty netter with just over a minute remaining for the victory. Each team finished 2-for-5 on the power play, and Maxime Tanguay added a penalty shot goal for Toledo on a controversial call. Danny Taylor made 28 saves for his third win in has last four outings. It was Michael Forney's first multi-point game.

- February 6, Gwinnett 5, Toledo 1 - W The Gladiators had goals from five different players, and Scott Mifsud had four points to lead the Gladiators to their second win and five-goal outing against the Toledo Walleye in as many nights. Scoring for Gwinnett were Mifsud, Chris Higgins, Sam Roberts, Dan Sullivan and Chad Denny. Gwinnett went 3-for-7 on the power play, and Dan Sullivan extended his point streak to 7 games, while Mifsud stretched his to 6. Danny Taylor had 37 saves for his third straight victory.

The Gladiators travel to Florida to take on the Everblades in two mid-week tilts before returning home for three games, two against Charlotte and another against Florida, during this season's Pink in the Rink Weekend. The Gladiators will try to extend their season-high win streak past three games, as they begin their push towards the playoffs.

The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on the road on Tuesday, February 9th @ the Florida Everblades at 7:30 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
