Chiefs Trade For Rookie From Las Vegas

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have acquired left wing Matthew Kang from the Las Vegas Wranglers in exchange for future considerations.

The 6-0, 190-pound left wing from Toronto, Ontario, is in his first season of professional hockey. Through 24 games with the Las Vegas Wranglers, Kang registered 5 points (4G, 1A), 28 penalty minutes, and posted a -10 rating. Prior to the season he attended training camp with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.

Kang spent five seasons in the Ontario Hockey league playing for Owen Sound, Kingston, and Brampton. The winger totaled 205 points (87G, 118A) in 270 games over his OHL career. He posted career-best numbers in 2007-08 with 66 points (30G, 36A) which were second best on the club.

After nearly three seasons with the Frontenacs from 2006-2009, Kang was traded during the 2008-09 season to the Brampton Battalion, where in 29 games he posted 24 points (12G, 12A) and 29 penalty minutes. Following his 29 regular season games, Kang skated with the Battalion in 21 playoff games, helping them reach the OHL finals, where they eventually fell to the Windsor Spitfires, with 15 points (8G, 7A) in 21 games.

Kang is expected to be in the lineup when the Chiefs travel to Wheeling on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.
