Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators three game-winning streak was snapped in a 3-1 loss to the Reading Royals on Wednesday night at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Gwinnett falls to 10-5-3 on the season in the loss.
The Gladiators jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Jamie Milam's 5th goal of the season. Working into the Reading zone with Brad Schell, Milam found a loose puck in the slot and banged it past Royals netminder Yutaka Fukufuji to give Gwinnett the lead just 5:41 into the first period.
Reading answered late in the opening period right as a power play expired. John Snowden ripped a slap shot off a face-off past Gladiators netminder Dan Turple for the goal. Joe Zappala collected an assist on the goal with 1:59 left in the opening period as he won the draw back to Snowden to set up the marker.
Greg Hogeboom gave the Royals a 2-1 lead just 2:20 into the second period. Ripping a slapshot past Turple from the right wing point, Hogeboom was set up by Arpad Mihaly for the power play goal. Jason Becker also collected an assist on the go-ahead goal.
Reading took a 3-1 lead with a shorthanded goal at the 6:49 mark of the second period. Hogeboom slipped past the Gladiators defense and chased down a loose puck and beat Turple on a breakaway for second tally of the game for the Royals. Taylor Christie chipped in an assist on the shorthanded maker.
Fukufuji made 11 third period saves for the Royals as Reading shutdown the Gladiators in the third period for the win.
Gwinnett was held off the board on the power play in the loss on seven chances. The Royals finished with two power play goals on six chances while outshooting the Gladiators 33-31 in the Reading win.
