Gladiators Fall to Greenville in Shootout

GREENVILLE, Sc. - The Atlanta Gladiators (22-14-3-1) led the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (21-11-7-0) three times but could not find a winner in the extra frame as Atlanta fell 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.

First Star: Carter Souch (GVL) - 2 assists, shootout winner

Second Star: Ryan Bednard (GVL) - 50 saves

Third Star: Tanner Eberle (GVL) - 2 goals

Atlanta struck first in the contest courtesy of Sanghoon Shin who made it 1-0 (4:05). Cody Sylvester sent a point shot on net while Atlanta was on the powerplay with Shin knocking home the rebound for his ninth goal of the season.

Greenville scored early in the second period to tie things 1-1 (18:36).

The Gladiators regained their lead before the midway point of the second period as Atlanta pulled ahead 2-1 (12:29). Tim Davison blasted a shot from the point which made its way past Greenville netminder Ryan Bednard for his fifth goal of the year.

Greenville tied the game early in the third period, making the score 2-2 (17:45).

Atlanta once again put themselves up a goal just three minutes later to make it 3-2 (14:23). David Tendeck denied the Swamp Rabbits on a breakaway on one end of the rink as the puck made its way into the Greenville zone where Eric Neiley scored his 19th goal of the year for the lead.

The Swamp Rabbits tied the game late in the third period to make it 3-3 (7:32).

After seven minutes of overtime solved nothing the game headed to a shootout. The Gladiators did not connect on their three chances and Carter Souch scored for Greenville to give the Swamp Rabbits the 4-3 win.

Ryan Bednard made 50 saves to secure the victory for Greenville, David Tendeck turned aside 24 of 27 shots in the loss for Atlanta.
