Gladiators fall to Generals, 4-3

Brandon Dietrich's three assists for the Gladiators wasn't enough to overcome a hat trick by Greensboro's Mike Bayrack in a 4-3 loss Friday night in front of a record crowd of 6,853 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Eric Fortier opened the scoring as he beat Gladiators goaltender Mike Buckley at 4:09 of the first period. Bryson Busniuk and Geno Parris addedthe assists on the power play goal.

Greensboro extended its lead to 2-0 on Mike Bayrack slid a puck past Buckley as he was wide open in the slot. Kurt Drummond and Eric Fortier added the assists on the goal.

Evan Nielsen got the Gladiators on the board as he took a pass from Anthony Aquino on the door step and flipped the puck past Greensboro netminder Daniel Berthiaume. Brandon Dietrich also had an assist on the goal at 12:27 of the period.

Mike Bayrack's second goal of the night at 16:08 of the first extended the Generals lead to 3-1. Mark Turner and Geno Parris added the assists on the power play tally.

Rick Emmett slid down the right wing side from his point position and found a rebound in the slot and flipped the puck past Berthiaume to cut the Greensboro lead to one goal. Cam Brown and Brandon Dietrich added the assists on the power play goal at 19:12 of the first period.

Mike Bayrack compleated the hat trick as he tallied the game winner 1:11 into the final period. Matt Elich and Bryson Busniuk added the assists on the power play goal.

Anthony Aquinio cut the lead back to one goal as he ripped a shot over the outstretched leg of Berthiaume at 14:11 of the third. Brandon Dietrich and Troy Milam added the assists on the power play goal.

The Gladiators tallied all three goals on the power play as they went 3-for-8 on the man advantage while outshooting the Generals 45 - 36 in the loss and fall to 22-13-3.
