Charlotte Checkers News Release
(Reading, PA â Friday, January 16) The Charlotte Checkers continued to stumble and fell to 0-3-1 in their last four games after a 4-0 shutout loss to the Reading Royals Friday night at the Sovereign Center in Reading. A three-goal third period and three tallies in four minutes was decisive for Reading, which improved its home record to 12-1-3 with the victory.
"Once again the same mistakes plagued us tonight, especially the odd-man rushes," commented Checkers Coach Don MacAdam. "I'm surprised we didn't come out and play better. I'm really disappointed in some of our guys' play, especially some of our leaders"
The Royals took a 1-0 lead at 8:07 of the first period as Reading's Judd Medak completed a two on one break by beating Checkers goalie David St. Germain. After a scoreless second period, the Royals erupted for three goals in a four-minute span in the third period to ice the game. Brad Church made it to 2-0 Reading at 8:04 of the final period after capping a four on one break. Lars Petersen made it 3-0 at 10:09 before Greg Mischler bounced one in off the back of St. Germain's legs at 12:29 for the 4-0 final. St. Germain took the loss in goal for Charlotte with 30 saves, while Royals goalies Peter Hamerlik and Terry Denike shared the shutout win for Reading with 24 saves.
The Checkers record dropped to 18-15-4 for 41 points while Reading improved to 19-12-6 for 44 points.
