Louisiana IceGators News Release

Beaumont, TX The Louisiana IceGators played their first game in five days tonight when they traveled to Beaumont to take on the Texas Wildcatters. Things did not get off to a good start for the Gators, who entered the third period down 2-0.

Frederic Cloutier stopped a penalty shot in the first period. Alex Materukhin dove into the crease and covered the puck with his glove. Wildcatter John Campbell tried to put the puck past Cloutier one-on-one, but was stone-walled by the Louisiana All-Star.

The Gators shot out of the gate in the third frame and scored three goals in less than three minutes. Konstatin Kalmikov opened the scoring flurry on the power play when he jammed the puck past Wildcatter goalie Mark Scally.

Jamie Johnson and Armands Berzins both tallied to put the Gators in the lead. The Gators had few problems maintaining their lead, as they rained 29 shots on Scally in the final twenty minutes.

The IceGators return to the Ford Arena Saturday night for the second game in the back-to-back set against the Wildcatters. The Gators will then return to the Cajundome to face off with the Pensacola Ice Pilots, who were shut 2-0 on their last visit to the Frozen Swamp.
