FLORENCE, SC -- The Florence Pride's four-game winning streak ended Friday night, as they lost 4-3 to the Columbus Cottonmouths in front of 2,643 fans at the Florence Civic Center.
Columbus took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Colin Pepperall and Christian Larrivee (power play).
Florence pulled within one at the 7:52 mark of the second period, as Luke Earl ripped a shot past Columbus goaltender Matus Kostur for his fourth goal of the season. Bobby Russell and Ryan Gaucher earned the assists.
The Cottonmouths regained their two-goal advantage at 12:17, as Tomas Micka slid a shot past Matt Underhill for his ninth goal of the season.
The Pride came back within one 10:40 into the second period, taking advantage of a power play. Bobby Russell fed Eric Naud cutting up the left-wing side. Naud centered a perfect pass to Jeff Szwez who one-timed a shot past Kostur for his 11th tally of the season.
But, just 2:46 later, the Cottonmouths took a 4-2 lead. J.F. Plourde fed John Morlang on the right-wing side on a 2-on-1 rush. Morlang's quick shot beat Underhill for his 14th of the season.
For the third time in the game, the Pride pulled within on with 2:52 left. Wes Goldie gathered in a pass from Matt Reid, and banged a shot off of the post and into the net for his team-leading 20th of the season. Vladimir Gusev also got an assist on the goal.
The Pride pulled Underhill for an extra attacker, and despite some solid scoring chances, could not get the equalizer past Kostur.
Florence is back in action Saturday, hosting the Columbia Inferno at 7:30. Tickets are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333.
Group tickets are now available for the Pride's annual Church Night on Saturday, January 31 against the Greenville Grrrowl. Following the game, local recording artists N'Accord will perform a post-game concert. Groups of 10 or more can purchase group tickets starting at the low price of just $7 each.
