Wildcatters Run Out of Gas, Fall 3-2 to IceGators

Beaumont, TX (January 16, 2004) â The Texas Wildcatters returned home after their six-game West Coast road trip to face the Louisiana IceGators for the first of four consecutive meetings, falling 3-2. Texas finished the game with just seven forwards as injuries, the flu, and a game misconduct reduced the roster. Tony Lawrence opened up the scoring for the Wildcatters at the 6:20 mark of the first period as he knocked in the rebound off a Rob Guinn shot. Aaron MacInnis also assisted on the power-play goal. Wildcatters' netminder Mark Scally, in his first start between the pipes at Ford Arena, stopped all 13 shots he faced in the opening period.
Brian Passmore doubled the Wildcatters' lead at the 12:20 mark of the second stanza with a wrap around goal from Warren Toews and John Snowden. The lone goal of the period was Passmore's ninth of the year. Scally recorded was perfect in the period, stopping all 12 IceGators shots.
Louisiana would cut the Wildcatters' lead in half at the 2:54 mark of the final period as Konstantin Kalmikov scored a five minute power-play from Rod Sarich and Jamie Johnson. The IceGators would even the score minutes later as Johnson tallied his sixth of the year on assists from Kalmikov and Samir Ben-Amor. They would strike again 54 seconds later as Armands Berzins recorded the go-ahead goal from Sarich and Dennis Shiryaev. The goal would be the difference maker as Frederic Cloutier recorded his 13th win of the season. Mark Scally suffers his first loss in regulation with the Wildcatters despite 49 saves.
