Steelheads Fall 3-2 to Long Beach in Shootout

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads fell to the Long Beach Ice Dogs, 3-2, in a shootout at the Bank of America Centre before a sellout crowd of 5,275 Friday night. By earning the point, Idaho maintains first place in the ECHL's Pacific Division with 51 points.

Idaho dropped its second shootout decision to Long Beach, having lost 5-4 in Long Beach on December 26. Idaho is now 24-11-3, and 3-0-2 on the season against the Ice Dogs.

Long Beach broke the ice with a goal in the first period as early pressure on Idaho goaltender Blair Allison paid off at the 2:36 mark. Ken Tasker fed the puck over to Darren Partch who beat Allison for his fourth goal of the season against Idaho, his sixth overall. Idaho's Jeremy Mylymok answered back with his second of the year, a power play goal at 14:28. Chris Slater and Miguel Delisle each recorded an assist on the equalizer. Idaho had a few good chances to score on its third power play of the period, but the best chance came on an Idaho turnover that led to an Ice Dogs breakaway, but Allison made the save.

Idaho took the lead early in the second, when Darrell Hay skated the puck in from his own blue line, passed to Delisle who fed Dylan Gyori. Long Beach netminder Colin Zulianello got beat short side on Gyori's one-timer at 54 seconds. Long Beach knotted the game once again when Alex Kim scored just 20 seconds into a five-on-three at the 6:30 mark.

The third period ended the same way it began, locked at two goals apiece, sending the game to a five-minute sudden death overtime period. Again, the period ended without any scoring.

It took 16 shooters to decide the outcome, as the teams were tied after five shooters each, 2-2. Long Beach's Derek Seal beat Allison to give the Ice Dogs a one-goal lead, and netminder Zulianello stopped Idaho's Lance Galbraith to give Long Beach the second point.

Idaho plays at Fresno Saturday night before returning to the B of A Centre for a Sunday night rematch with Long Beach at 7:05.
