Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN -- Justin Garcia fanned 12 hitters in 6 1/3 innings as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (8-0) stymied the Saltdogs (4-5) 5-1 in front of 3,310 fans at Haymarket Park Friday night.

The Goldeyes did their damage offensively with two outs: all five of their runs were created after the first two batters of the inning were retired (two in the first, one in the third and two in the fifth). All 10 of the Winnipeg hits came with two outs.

The Saltdogs scored their run in the bottom of the first on a Ian Gac double off the left field wall.

Garcia (2-0) allowed one run on five hits, while striking out 12 and walking zero in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. Ben Henry (0-1) gave up five runs on 10 hits in six innings to suffer the loss.

Gac finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Eddie McKiernan and Conor Spink combined to throw three hitless innings of relief.

The Saltdogs bullpen has now thrown eight scoreless frames through the first two games of the series.

The clubs will play game three of the four-game series Saturday night at 7:45 p.m. Matt Bywater (0-1, 23.14) will take the hill against Pete Gehle (1-0, 5.06). Radio coverage begins at 7:15 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
