RedHawks Drop Home Opener to Laredo

FARGO, N.D. - The Laredo Lemurs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first and never looked back as the Lemurs extended their win streak to eight, in an 11-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in front of 4,238 fans on Friday at Newman Outdoor Field.

Laredo (8-0) picked up four hits in the first, highlighted by a Jon Gaston two-run single and a Garrett Rau RBI triple to jump out to the early lead.

The Lemurs extended their lead 8-0 in the third, chasing Fargo-Moorhead Jake Laber out of the game. Laber pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up eight runs (three earned) on six hits in the loss.

MacKenzie King, Nathan Kilcrease and Pete Levitt combined to pitch the final 6 1/3 in relief for the RedHawks (2-6). King threw 3 2/3 innings, gave up one hit with a strikeout in 2/3 innings and Levitt pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Greg Wilborn started for the Lemurs and held the RedHawks scoreless through 4 1/3 innings, before having to leave the game after being hit by a line drive. Edwin Walker Jr. came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings and earn his first win of the season. Jameson Maj and Garrett Pau finished out the final 2 2/3 innings for Laredo.

Brian Peterson went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored, Mike Sheridan and Sawyer Carroll had two hits apiece, and Marcos Rodriguez had three RBIs to lead Laredo at the plate.

Jose Garcia recorded three hits for the RedHawks and scored the only run on a sacrifice fly by Tim Alberts in the seventh. Keith Brachold picked up two hits in his first two at bats for the only other multi-hit game.
