Wingnuts Bounce Back against New Jersey

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (5-4) beat the New Jersey Jackals (4-5) 10-5 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Friday night.

With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the third, Wichita rallied for three runs to overcome a 1-0 deficit and take control of the game. After starting with an 0-2 count, Ryan Khoury eventually worked out a hit batsman and scored the tying run when Jake Kahaulelio doubled to left-center field. John Rodriguez followed with a two-run homer off the bottom of the scoreboard in left-center that made it 3-1.

Wichita broke the game open with a four-run bottom of the fifth. Khoury walked leading off and went to second when Kahaulelio was hit by a pitch. Rodriguez singled up the middle to drive in Khoury with the Wingnuts' fourth run. C.J. Ziegler made it 6-1 with a line drive, two-run double to right-center field. Ziegler later scored on a wild pitch.

Wingnuts' starter Junior Guerra allowed just one earned run on nine hits over seven innings to pick up the victory. Guerra struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

Cole Armstrong tacked on another run for the Wingnuts in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out, RBI single to right.

After the Jackals scored three unearned runs in the top of the eighth to cut Wichita's lead to 8-4, Khoury and Kahaulelio each delivered run-scoring hits with two outs in the bottom of the inning. New Jersey added one more unearned run in the top of the ninth before Tyler White struck out Nick Giarraputo and Yasanberty Arbelo back-to-back to end the game.

Jose Cuevas lined a two-out, RBI single to center in the top of the second to account for the first run of the night.

Jackals' starter Craig Bennigson took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in four and one-third innings. Bennigson walked one and struck out two.

Kahaulelio finished with three hits, while Khoury and Rodriguez each scored three runs. Khoury made three highlight-caliber defensive plays in the late innings, including two on back-to-back plays in the top of the seventh.

The Wingnuts and Jackals conclude their series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Kristhiam Linares faces Jackals' right-hander David Filak.

The WWE's Ted DiBiase, "The Million Dollar Man", will be at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium for Saturday's game. The Wingnuts will give away $10,000 to one lucky fan if the team strikes out the side in order in the top of the eighth inning. Beginning this season, fans can use cash at all points of sale in Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Debit and credit cards will still be accepted. Fans can resolve outstanding balances on cash cards from previous years until June 1st, 2013.
