Laredo Lemurs News Release
LAREDO, TX - The Laredo Lemurs pound out six runs in the first inning and put a damper on the Fargo Moorhead RedHawks home opener with an 11-1 win at Newmann Outdoor Field in Fargo, North Dakota.
In the first Jake Opitz opened up the game with a single and then reached second base on a muffed pick off play at first to put him at second. Sawyer Carroll and John Allen would follow up with a walk to each of them to load the bases with one out. Jon Gaston would then single to drive in two runs to put the Lemurs on the board.
Mike Sheridan got into the mix with a single and a RBI. Then Brian Peterson singled to drive in a run and Garrett Rau tripled to drive in a run. Altogether the Lemurs would score six runs, on four hits, with two walks to take an early lead in Fargo.
Brian Peterson had the biggest day for the Lemurs racking up four hits in five at bats, with three runs scored and a RBI. Marcos Rodriguez continued to be hot, as he went one for three, with three RBI's.
Lemurs starting pitcher Greg Wilborn was pitching great through the first four and a third, when he had a line drive hit him in the head just above his eye. Wilborn staggered around a bit after getting hit, but he never went to the ground. We walked off the field with a towel pressed against his face.
Edwin Walker stepped in for Wilborn and picked up the win as he went two complete, giving up one run, on one hit, with two walks, and two strikeouts.
Jake Laber took the loss has he lasted two and two thirds, giving up eight runs, on seven hits, while walking four and striking out two.
