Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Comstock Park, MI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (26-14) fell to the West Michigan Whitecaps (18-21) 8-1 on Saturday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Marty Gantt drove in the lone run for the Hot Rods, who drop just their second game in their last seven contests. The seven run deficit is the largest the Hot Rods have faced in a defeat this season.

The Whitecaps scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Danry Vasquez scored after a Tommy Coyle error at second base. The Hot Rods then brought runners into scoring position in three of the next four innings but could not drive a run home.

West Michigan barraged the Hot Rods pitchers with seven runs in innings five through seven, including two separate RBI base hits each from David Gonzalez and Danry Vasquez and a solo home run from Jeff Holm. The only Hot Rods run was scored by Luke Maile, who scored on Gantt's opposite field single to right field with two outs in the sixth.

The seven-game road trip continues Sunday at Fifth Third Ballpark as the Hot Rods continue their series with the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers). May 10's suspended game at Bowling Green Ballpark will be picked up in the bottom of the first inning with the Hot Rods serving as the home team at 1:00 PM CDT. A seven-inning game will follow.

RHP Reinaldo Lopez (2-1, 0.65) resumes the action for the Hot Rods in the suspended game, opposite RHP Yorfrank Lopez (3-2, 4.91). In the seven-inning contest, Bowling Green's RHP Taylor Guerrieri (2-1, 2.00) will start opposite West Michigan's RHP Brennan Smith (2-0, 0.77). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst will begin at 11:50 AM CDT. Tune in to the game on 1340 WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com.
