Dayton Dragons News Release

South Bend, Ind.-Tanner Rahier belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 3-1 victory and a doubleheader sweep of the South Bend Silver Hawks on Saturday night. The Dragons, who have won the first three games in the series, completed their first doubleheader sweep since June 12, 2010 at Wisconsin. The Dragons won the first game of the doubleheader 6-3.

The Dragons have enjoyed success in the series against a South Bend team that was 24-12 on the year when the weekend began and in first place in the Midwest League's East Division.

In game two, Dayton trailed 1-0 when Rahier came to the plate with two on and two out in the sixth. He connected on a 1-2 pitch with a towering home run well beyond the left field fence to make it 3-1. It was Rahier's fourth homer of the year.

Dragons starting pitcher Wandy Peralta (1-2) was outstanding to earn the win. He went six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts. He retired 10 straight batters through the end of the sixth inning. Alejandro Chacin came on to record the final two outs and earn the save in the seven-inning game.

Joe Terry collected four hits and drove in three runs in the Dragons 6-3 victory in game one. The Dragons built a 4-0 lead over the first four innings. Jesse Winker's run-scoring single in the third got the scoring started and Terry delivered a two-run double in the fourth as the Dragons added to their lead. South Bend eventually pulled to within two runs at 5-3 but Terry added a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh to extend the Dragons lead to three runs again.

The Dragons finished with 12 hits in game one. Along with Terry's four-hit performance, Seth Mejias-Brean, Junior Arias, and Tanner Rahier each had two hits.

Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano earned the game one victory. He worked five innings, allowing five hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Ben Klimesh replaced Romano and tossed the final two innings for his third save. Klimesh inherited a two-on, no out jam in the sixth but got a double play ball and a strikeout to work out of trouble, then pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the first game Dragons win.

The Dragons meet the Silver Hawks in game four of the five-game series on Sunday in South Bend at 2:05 p.m. Robert Stephenson (2-3, 4.05) will start for Dayton. All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.
