Great Lakes Loons News Release

LANSING, MI - Entering Saturday night, Loons pitchers had surrendered just two home runs in May, the second lowest total in the Midwest League for the month. Saturday night, three different Lugnuts reversed that trend with three home runs en route to a 9-2 win over Great Lakes in front of a crowd of 6,439 at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Kevin Patterson drove home six runs in the game on a bases-loaded double in the first inning and a three-run homer in the seventh.

Already leading 3-0, Lansing scored two more in the second on a two-run home run by Dwight Smith, Jr.

Loons starter Ralston Cash left after two innings and the Loons trailing 5-0. Cash (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing four hits, four walks and five runs (all earned).

Geoff Brown and Zachary Bird each compiled two scoreless relief innings each following Cash.

In the seventh, Joel Lima entered in relief and surrendered the three-run shot to Patterson, followed later by a solo home run to Balbino Fuenmayor. Sawil Gonzalez pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

The Loons scored their first run in the third, loading the bases with no outs and eventually scoring on a wild pitch by Lansing starter Daniel Norris. The Loons cut the Lansing lead to 5-2 when they scored on an infield single by Jeremy Rathjen in the sixth.

Norris lasted just four innings and struck out seven. Reliever Kramer Champlin (1-1) was credited with the win.

The Loons and Lugnuts square off for the third game of a four-game series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. Right-hander Jharel Cotton (1-2, 2.86 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons against righty Javier Avendano (3-2, 5.40). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.

The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
