KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings had endless energy and a plethora of chances, but couldn't overcome the timely scoring of the Quad City Mallards, as they dropped a 2-1 decision on Saturday night at Wings Event Center.

Looking to snap a goalless streak that had spanned 194:55 of gameplay entering the game, Kalamazoo came out firing in the first period and peppered Quad City goaltender C.J. Motte. Though the Wings earned a power play try and steered 11 shots towards the Mallards' goaltender, they were held off the scoresheet in the opening period. Kalamazoo's Joel Martin made eight saves of his own, and both teams headed to the locker room scoreless after a period of play.

Early in the second period, Kalamazoo forced a turnover and were able to spin the puck into the Quad City zone, freeing up Tyler Shattock along the right-wing wall. Shattock whipped a centering feed that snuck through traffic, and onto the stick of Anthony Camara, who quickly buried the puck into an open corner. The tally snapped the goalless streak at 219:48 of gameplay and gave Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead.

As the third period progressed, it was a moment of bad luck for Kalamazoo that helped pull Quad City even at one. A rink-wide pass from Adam Comrie that was intended for Ben Wilson deflected off the stick of Brady Brassart and snuck through the legs of Martin.

With under three minutes to play, the Mallards built upon their lead as Brassart netted his second of the game with a short-side wrist shot that beat Martin over the shoulder, giving Quad City a 2-1 edge.

With Martin on the bench in favor of an extra attacker, Kalamazoo relentlessly attacked the Mallards, but couldn't rustle up an equalizer, and dropped the home contest.
