Defenseman Michael Boivin Added to Royals Active Roster

November 12, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Michael Boivin has been added to the team's active roster. Boivin is expected to play for the Royals tonight (@ 7:00 pm) in the team's game against the Manchester Monarchs. In a separate transaction, the Royals traded defenseman Greg Amlong to the Elmira Jackals for future considerations.

Boivin (6'2/186) (25), a fourth year pro from Delta, British Columbia, was signed this past off-season to an AHL contract by the Tucson Roadrunners. Prior to the start of the season, he was loaned by the Roadrunners to the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL, who had acquired Boivin's playing rights in trade with the Manchester Monarchs. In eight games with the Rush, Boivin recorded five penalty minutes. His ECHL playing rights were waived by the Rush on October 28 and subsequently claimed by the Royals. Last week, Tucson loaned Boivin to Reading.

Last season, Boivin led all defensemen on the Manchester Monarchs with thirty-three points (10g-23a) in sixty-three ECHL games, which placed him in twentieth place amongst d-men in the league. Boivin spent the first two seasons of his pro career in Austria, where he was a member of the 2014 EC Salzburg Red Bull team that won the Austrian Championship. Prior to turning pro, he had a stellar collegiate career at Colorado College. Boivin had a break-out year in his senior season when he led all defensemen on the team in scoring and was selected to the All-WCHA team. In 122 total collegiate games, Boivin registered sixty-six points (26g-40a) and 168 penalty minutes for the Tigers.

Amlong, who was acquired by the Royals in a trade with the Wichita Thunder on October 19, did not appear in game for Reading.
