WHERE WE STAND The Monarchs enter tonight's tilt with the Reading Royals tied with Reading for second place in the North Division of the Eastern Conference with 13 points each. Both teams are still looking up at the Adirondack Thunder (17 pts.) who lead the division.
LEADING THE WAY Daniel Ciampini sits alone at the top of the Monarchs scoring sheet with his 10 points. While Justin Gutierrez and Justin Agosta immediately follow Ciampini with nine points each, three Monarchs, Cory Ward, Joey Diamond and David Kolomatis all have eight points each in third place.
ROOKS ARE GOOD The Monarchs have four rookies in Gutierrez, Ward, Alexx Privitera and Quentin Shore who rank in the top-7 amongst rookies in scoring across the ECHL. Gutierrez is 5th overall and 3rd in assists (7a), Ward is in a 6th-place tie overall and tied for 3rd in goals (5g), while Shore and Privitera are tied for 7th in overall points for first-year skaters with their seven points.
TAKING AIM Two of the most accurate shooting defensemen in the ECHL, Florian Iberer of Reading and Privitera of Manchester, will be taking aim on goal tonight. Iberer leads all defensemen with a shooting percentage of 20%, with Privitera sitting in second with a shooting percentage of 17.6%.
IS THIS READING? The Royals have been road warriors so far this season, playing only two of their first 11 games on home ice. The road has been good to the Royals as they have amassed a 5-3-0-1 record, but have not been able to establish a home-ice advantage, going 1-1-0-0 in their two games in Reading. The Monarchs were responsible for Reading's lone home loss, a 5-1 drubbing on Oct. 21.
SPECIAL TEAMS After going 1-for-6 on the power play last night in Norfolk, the Monarchs enter tonight's game with the 9th-ranked man-advantage in the ECHL, converting on 21.6% of their odd-man chances. The game could be won on special teams tonight, as Reading comes in with the ECHL's worst penalty-killing unit, sitting with a 71.1% kill rate.
