ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Brad Ralph announced Saturday that the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) have reassigned defenseman Josh Wesley to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Wesley, 20, returns to Charlotte after logging a goal and two assists in four games played with the Everblades this season. Wesley recorded his first professional goal in his Everblades debut on November 4 against Norfolk.
Last season, Wesley totaled 18 points (5g,13a) in 57 games split between the Niagara IceDogs and the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) last season. The 6-3, 201-pound blueliner played two seasons with the Plymouth Whalers (OHL) from 2013-2015 registering 19 points (7g,12a). Wesley also appeared in one game with Charlotte in 2015.
The Raleigh, North Carolina native is a fourth-round draft selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Josh is the son of longtime NHL defenseman Glen Wesley who played in 1,457 NHL games from 1987-2008, winning a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.
