Brassart broke a 1-1 deadlock with just two minutes and 21 seconds left in the game with a wrist shot from the left wing circle after he poke-checked the puck off a Kalamazoo stick in the right wing circle and past Wings goaltender Joel Martin to tie the score four minutes into the third.

The Wings had taken a 1-0 lead when Anthony Camara roofed Tyler Shattock's centering pass at 2:53 of the second period, but C.J. Motte- who finished the night with 22 saves- and the Mallards would hold Kalamazoo off the scoreboard the rest of the way to set the stage for Brassart's heroics.
