Last Night

Nolan LaPorte scored once and added two assists and C.J. Motte made 42 saves as the host Mallards defeated the Toledo Walleye 4-2.

Roll

The Mallards are unbeaten in regulation in their last three games (2-0-1) and have suffered just one regulation loss in their last eight games (6-1-1).

Central

The Mallards' win last night combined with the Wings' 3-0 loss to Cincinnati yesterday evening to lift the Mallards out of a tie with Kalamazoo and into sole possession of fourth place in the Central Division. The Mallards are now two points ahead of the Wings and one point behind the third-place Fort Wayne Komets. Last night's win was the Mallards' third straight against a division opponent. The Mallards tonight play the second game in a stretch of three consecutive contests against division foes. On the season, the Mallards have gone 3-2-0 against other Central Division clubs.

Take Down

The Mallards have now faced each of the top two teams in the Central Division- the Tulsa Oilers and the Walleye- and beaten both. Prior to dropping second-place Toledo last night, the Mallards defeated league- and division-leading Tulsa 3-2 on October 29.

Home Sweet Home

The Mallards have gone unbeaten in regulation (3-0-1) in four home games since dropping their season opener on home ice to Fort Wayne on October 14.

On the Road Again

The Mallards tonight play the first of back-to-back road games. The Mallards will visit Fort Wayne next Friday night.

Stingy

The Mallards are tied for third in the ECHL in goals allowed (2.5 per game) after giving up a total of five non-shootout goals over their last three games and surrendering two non-shootout goals or fewer in seven of their last eight games.

Red Light District

The Mallards last night matched a club single game season high by scoring four goals and a team single period season best by striking three times in the second. The Mallards now rank twenty-first in the league in goals scored. The Mallards score 2.6 goals per game, the lowest average for any ECHL club with a winning record.

Rubber

The Mallards last night matched a club single game season high by allowing 44 shots and set a new team single period season high by surrendering 19 shots in the first. In the Mallards' last regulation period before the Walleye drove 19 shots at the Quad City net last night- the third period of the Mallards' 3-2 shootout loss Sunday against the Cincinnati Cyclones- the Mallards had actually established a team season low for one period by conceding just two Cyclone shots. After last night, the Mallards fell from fourth to tenth in the ECHL in shots allowed (29.2 per game).

First Strike Capability

The Mallards have scored the first goal in each of their six wins.

Streak

After scoring what proved to be the game winning goal in the second period last night and also picking up an assist, Chris Francis has now scored four times and totaled five points in his last five games.

Breakthrough

LaPorte scored his first career goal with just four seconds left in the second period last night. LaPorte piled up three points last night after recording just one point over his first eight games.

Return

Jack Nevins last night returned to the lineup for the first time since October 15 after missing seven games with a lower body injury and made an immediate impact with a pair of assists- his first two points for the Mallards.

Triple Threat

In all, the line of Francis, LaPorte and Nevins combined to produce two goals, five assists and seven points last night.

First

Guillaume Gelinas last night opened the scoring- on the power play- with his first goal of the season.

Rapid Fire

Donnie Harris scored the second Mallard goal just 25 seconds in the second period last night- the earliest the Mallards have scored in a period this season.

Reunion

The Mallards' Justin Kovacs tonight returns to Kalamazoo for the first time after playing for the Wings as a rookie last season. Kovacs (4-8-12) this season leads the Mallards in points and assists after notching six goals, 23 assists and 29 points in 63 games with Kalamazoo last year.

Between the Pipes

Motte made 42 saves last night while extending his personal winning streak to four games. By stopping 135 of 141 shots during that run Motte has posted a 1.50 goals against average and a .958 save percentage. On the season, he now ranks third in the ECHL in save percentage (.943), ranks fifth in goals against average (1.88) and is tied for seventh in wins (4).

Power Play

The Mallards last night converted their only power play to climb from eighth to third in the ECHL on the man advantage (24.3 percent). The Mallards have now scored on three of their last five power plays after going 2-for-4 over the final two periods (plus overtime) of their shootout loss Sunday against Cincinnati.

Penalty Kill

The Mallards went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill last night and have gone 7-for-7 over their last two games. The Mallards now rank eleventh n the league in penalty killing (83.8 percent).

Head to Head

The Mallards open an eight-game season series with the Wings tonight. The Mallards will visit Kalamazoo three times this season. The Mallards went 2-2-0 against the Wings last season and lost their only game in Kalamazoo. The Mallards and Wings last season were reunited for the first time since the Mallards defeated Kalamazoo 3-2 on March 30, 2007. The Mallards and Wings competed against each other in the United Hockey League between 2000 and 2007. The Mallards went 24-19-7 in 50 meetings with the Wings over those seven seasons. They went 10-10-2 in Kalamazoo.

Ins and Outs

Forward Jack Nevins returned to the Mallards' lineup last night after missing seven games (lower body injury)... Forward Michael Parks has missed the Mallards' last four games (lower body injury)..The Mallards yesterday signed goaltender Kent Patterson...The Mallards yesterday released emergency backup goaltender Jake Reed, who was signed Tuesday.
