With 18 points through the first eight games of the season - a club record in the MLS era - first-place Sounders FC (5-0-3, 18 points) travels to face Western Conference rival LA Galaxy (5-2-0, 15 points) on Saturday evening at Dignity Health Sports Park (6:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, Prime Video, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Seattle is the 12th team in MLS history to start a season with at least eight games unbeaten.

The match features the top two goal scorers in the league, with Seattle's Raúl Ruidíaz's six goals sitting one behind the Galaxy's Chicharito for the lead for the MLS Golden Boot. The two sides met previously this season on May 2, with Sounders FC earning a 3-0 win at Lumen Field.

The two sides have met 41 times across all competitions, in addition to being the two clubs that have earned the most regular season points in MLS since Seattle joined the league in 2009. The series is level at 15-15-11 across all competitions, but the Rave Green have a current five-match unbeaten run (3-0-2) where they have outscored the Galaxy 13-7.

All three goals conceded by Sounders FC in 2021 have come from set pieces (two by direct free kicks, one on a penalty kick). The Rave Green are the only team in the league yet to concede a goal through open play this season, leading MLS with a 0.38 goals against average and tied for first with five shutouts (Philadelphia).
