Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Another Walk Off Caps A Great Home Stand
The Aberdeen IronBirds capped off a 5-3 home stand with a 2-1, 10 inning walk-off victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats Tuesday night, taking two of three from the Stedler Division leaders. Ubaldo Jimenez got the start for the IronBirds, making a major league rehab appearance, but did not factor into the decision. Alex Murphy came through for Aberdeen all night long. After the ValleyCats took the lead in the top of the fourth, Murphy led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run, his third of the season. He then came up in the tenth inning with the bases loaded and one out and flicked a base hit over the second baseman's head, allowing Steve Wilkerson to trot home and score the winning run.
Hey There, Lonely Homers
Alex Murphy's fourth inning home run Tuesday night was the IronBirds' 16th home run of the season. Of those 16 round trippers, 14 of them have been solo shots. The only two home runs that were not solo bombs were Hector Veloz's shot on July 7th in Staten Island and Steve Wilkerson's home run (his first professional home run) at home on July 9th against the Batavia Muckdogs.
Tough Stretch Continues
After battling the Stedler Division leading Tri-City ValleyCats Sunday through Tuesday, the IronBirds will face another division leader, the Pinckney Division leading State College Spikes. The Spikes are coming off of a series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in Ohio, where the Spikes won two out of three from the Cleveland Indians' affiliate.
On the Mound Tonight...
RHP Tanner Chleborad will get the start for the IronBirds tonight in game one. He is 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA. He has made five appearances on the season, including three starts. In his last outing, at home on the 24th against the Connecticut Tigers, he pitched five innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He will face the Spikes' RHP Will Anderson. Anderson is coming off of a four inning start on July 24th against the Auburn Doubledays where he allowed five hits and two runs, without factoring into the decision. The Spikes will send out LHP Dewin Perez in game two. He is 3-1 on the season with a 3.44 ERA. The IronBirds will send out Lucas Long for the start in the second game. Long was drafted out of the University of San Diego in the 24th round of this year's draft.
