ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Nick Gonzales belted his sixth home run of the season, but the Omaha Storm Chasers prevailed over the Indianapolis Indians in their series-clinching victory on Friday night at Victory Field, 5-1. Omaha scored in the first inning for the fourth contest this week. Indians starter Kent Emanuel loaded the bases before fanning Johan Camargo for the first out. First basemen Logan Porter lined a two-run single for the game's first runs and Jakson Reetz later followed with an RBI double. Facing an early 3-0 deficit, leadoff hitter Nick Gonzales lifted an opposite field home run on the second pitch he saw, delivered by Omaha starter Max Castillo. The Storm Chasers padded their lead with two runs in the fourth and another in the eighth. Left fielder Brewer Hicklen ripped an opposite field two-run homer in the fourth and shortstop Johan Camargo plated a run with an RBI groundout. In the bottom of the eighth, Endy Rodríguez singled and Miguel Andújar doubled before Cal Mitchell drove in Rodríguez for Indy's final run of the contest.

GONZO LEADS US OFF: Indians leadoff hitter Nick Gonzales started off Friday night's game with a opposite-field home run. The 24-year-old has reached base safely in each of his last 10 games. During that span, he is hitting .282 (11-for-39) with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, nine walks, .440 on-base percentage and .953 OPS. He has drawn a walk in eight of his last 10 games. Gonzales is a former seventh-overall selection by Pittsburgh in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of New Mexico State (Las Cruces). He is currently rated Pittsburgh's No. 5 overall prospect.

CAL DRIVES 'EM IN: Cal Mitchell has driven in seven runs in four games against Omaha this week. He has collected an RBI in five of his last six games. He now has driven in 37 runs this season, which leads Indy's offense. The 24-year-old also leads the club in hits (54) and runs scored (37). Since May 3, he is hitting .321 (36-for-112) with eight doubles, six home runs, 27 RBI and .975 OPS in 34 games.

HE IS HIM: Miguel Andújar doubled in the eighth inning on Friday night to extend his hitting streak to 14 games since being outrighted by Pittsburgh on May 22, which surpasses Josh Palacios (4/23-5/7) for the longest hitting streak by an Indians batter this season. His streak is currently the second-longest active streak in the International League. Last week, he tallied four-hit nights twice, tying his career high for the first time since May 6, 2021 with Triple-A Scranton Wilkes/Barre at Syracuse. During his 14 games since returning to Indy, he is hitting .433 (26-for-60) with 14 runs scored, six doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI and 1.218 OPS. In 37 total games with Indy, he is hitting .345 (51-for-148) with 25 runs, 14 doubles, a triple, seven homers and 30 RBI. He has seven multi-hit games in his last 11. He ranks among IL leaders in average (4th), slugging percentage (9th) and OPS (1.007).

ENDY KEEPS HITTING: Switch-hitting catcher Endy Rodríguez extended his hitting streak to eight games on Friday night. He has now hit safely in all eight games he's played since the Indians have returned home on May 29. He is 15-for-39 with 10 runs scored, two doubles, a triple, six RBI and four walks. He began the homestand with his first career four-hit game in Triple-A and first since tallying a career-high five on Aug. 3, 2022, with High-A Greensboro at Bowling Green. He is hitting .292 (26-for-89) with three doubles, three triples, three home runs, 13 RBI and .841 OPS in 21 games at Victory Field this season.

HERE COMES HENRY: Henry Davis notched his first multi-hit game in Triple-A on Thursday night. Pittsburgh's first-overall selection in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, he was promoted from Double-A Altoona to Indianapolis on Tuesday. The 23-year-old appeared in 41 games with Altoona to begin the season and currently ranks among Eastern League leaders in on-base percentage (2nd, .433), OPS (2nd, .980), slugging percentage (4th, .547), home runs (T-5th, 10), total bases (T-7th, 81) and walks (9th, 32). While reaching base safely in 28 of 30 games from April 15-May 28, he logged a .324 batting average (34-for-105) and led all Double-A batters with a .470 on-base percentage and 1.108 OPS.

TONIGHT: The Indians and Storm Chasers will faceoff in the penultimate game of their six-game set at Victory Field tonight at 7:05 PM ET. The Storm Chasers have won the first four games of the series and have won all seven matchups against Indy at Victory Field this season. Through 10 games of the Indians 12-game homestand, they are 5-5, taking five of six from Toledo last week. Tonight, right-hander Cody Bolton (1-2, 2.48) will take the mound against Omaha's left-hander Anthony Veneziano (1-0, 6.92).

BOLTON ON THE BUMP: Right-hander Cody Bolton will make his 15th appearance and first start of the season tonight against the Storm Chasers. He is 1-2 with a 2.84 ERA (6er/19.0ip) with Indy this season. Tonight is his first start since Sept. 19, 2022 vs. St. Paul. Prior to last season with Indy, he was exclusively used as a starter. He allowed only one run in 10.0 innings in April before Pittsburgh first selected his contract on April 26. The 24-year-old made his major league debut in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Washington, posting 2.0 scoreless frames.

THIS DATE IN 1954: Two female second basemen were featured in the Indianapolis Clowns season-opening game against the Kansas City Monarchs. Connie Morgan played second for the Clowns, and Toni Stone for the Monarchs. Kansas City won the game, 9-8.
