Charlotte Knights News Release
(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped game five of a six-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 6-2 on Saturday night from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The Knights scored two runs on five hits in the loss.
Gwinnett scored first and did so in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run off the bat of Forrest Wall, his fifth of the season. One inning later, the Stripers added another run on a sacrifice-fly RBI from Justin Dean. Down by a score of 2-0, the Knights cut the lead in half thanks to an RBI single by Zach Remillard in the top of the fifth inning. The Stripers, however, battled right back and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Gwinnett added a sixth and final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single by Vaughn Grissom.
The Knights rallied in the top of the eighth inning, loading the bases against the Gwinnett bullpen. Still, the team was only able to score one run in the inning on a bases-loaded walk to Stephen Piscotty.
RHP Sean Burke (1-4, 7.61) started Saturday's game for the Knights and gave up five runs on six hits over five innings. Burke, who also walked three batters and fanned three, was saddled with the loss. Chicago White Sox RHP Jimmy Lambert continued his major league rehab stint and pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Knights. RHP Alex Colomé (one run in one inning) and RHP Declan Cronin (one scoreless inning) pitched for the Knights the rest of the way.
Gwinnett starter Michael Soroka (2-2, 3.92) earned the win after he allowed just one run over six strong innings.
Saturday's loss was Charlotte's fifth in the series. The two teams will play the finale of the six-game series on Sunday afternoon from Lawrenceville, GA. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch on Sunday is set for 1:05 p.m. from Coolray Field.
