
RailRiders Win One, Lose One

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders split Saturday's doubleheader with the Norfolk Tides, dropping game one 4-2 before taking the nightcap in extras by a 7-6 final in 11 innings.
Terrin Vavra started game one off the contest with a base hit and was brought home by Jordan Westburg who tallied his 17th homer of the season for a 2-0 Tides lead.
In the bottom of the second, Michael Hermosillo singled to right field. Hermosillo scored when Estevan Florial provided the equalizer. Florial's 13th home run of the season tied the ballgame up at two and extended his on-base streak to 28 games.
In the top of the fourth, Joey Ortiz lined a triple to right field and scored on an RBI double from Hudson Haskin. Haskin would come around on an RBI single from Daz Cameron vaulting the Tides back out front 4-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rodolfo Durán and Andrés Chaparro drew walks. Franchy Cordero laced a single, but the Tides would hold on to take the win.
Will Warren (2-3) got the start and pitched five innings in the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Aaron McGarity tossed two scoreless frames in relief.
Drew Rom (5-4) went five frames as well, giving up two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts for the win. Noah Denoyer posted a scoreless inning of work and Reed Garrett closed it out with a scoreless seventh inning, surrendering two walks and a hit enroute to the save.
In the second game of the twin bill, the RailRiders topped the Tides 7-6, backed by a big-time three-run homer from Franchy Cordero, a win from Wilmer Difo on the bump and a walk off from Jesús Bastidas.
In the top of the second, José Godoy laced a base hit and was brought home by a two-run home run from Robbie Glendinning to give Norfolk a 2-0 advantage.
Back-to-back base hits from Franchy Cordero and Jamie Westbrook set Carlos Narvaez up in the bottom of the second. Narvaez lined an RBI single, scoring Cordero and trimming the Tides lead to 2-1 after two.
Estevan Florial extended his on-base streak to 29 games in the bottom of the third when he tagged a base hit. Dunham joined him on the base paths with a single. Ben Rortvedt tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single to score Florial. Cordero launched a three-run home run to swing the advantage in favor of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 5-2 after three innings.
In the top of the seventh, Glendinning and Ben DeLuzio hit back-to-back home runs to trim the lead to 5-4. Base hits from Heston Kjerstad and Joey Ortiz and eventual advancement set the Tides up for a double steal attempt with Kjerstad crossing the plate to ti the game at five.
In extras, Connor Norby pinch ran for Lewin Diaz as the pace-of-play runner. Norby advanced on a groundout, José Godoy drew a walk and an RBI single from Glendinning put the Tides out front 6-5.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jamie Westbrook roped an RBI double down the left-field line to plate Ben Rortvedt and tie the game at 6-6.
Greg Weissert worked a scoreless ninth, but the RailRiders couldn't walk it off. In the tenth, Wilmer Difo became the first RailRiders position player to pitch this season. Difo pitched a scoreless tenth and eleventh inning, setting up a fifth straight chance for the win.
In the bottom of the eleventh, with Chapparo on second, Cordero drew a walk. After a lineout and a pop out foul. Jesús Bastidas walked it off with an RBI single, giving SWB a 7-6 win.
Colten Brewer started the contest, going 1.2 innings allowing just a run and a hit while striking out two. James Norwood pitched 2.1 innings allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Michael Gomes put forth two scoreless innings, fanning four. Snelten went two innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Wilmer Difo (1-0) notched his first pitching victory as a professional. Eduard Bazardo (3-1) took the loss for the Tides.
The RailRiders and Tides wrap their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM.
