From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians used a Max Moroff sacrifice fly to grab an early 1-0 lead and seven shutout frames from starter Alex McRae to hand the Mud Hens their first shutout and three-game sweep of 2018, 7-0 last night at Fifth Third Field. The Indians improved to 9-4 vs. Toledo and 20-13 against IL West foes. Wyatt Mathisen launched a two-run homer in the fourth inning to extend Indy's lead to 3-0, and Jordan Luplow made it 4-0 with an RBI single in the fifth. The Tribe tacked on three runs in the ninth, the first on a Kevin Newman sacrifice fly and last two on a triple by Adam Frazier. Jesus Liranzo struck out three over two scoreless innings to complete Indy's ninth shutout, tied with Lehigh Valley for most in the International League. McRae struck out a season-high tying eight batters, walked one and allowed just three hits in his third win of the season, all coming on the road.

HOW SWEEP IT IS: Indianapolis earned its third sweep of the season with last night's victory in Toledo, each coming in the month of June. The Tribe swept a three-game set in Rochester from June 5-7 and another three-game set over Norfolk at Victory Field from June 19-21. The Indians hadn't won a series at Fifth Third Field since 2016, doing so twice (June 3-5, 2 of 3; Aug. 27-28, 2 of 2). Their last three-game sweep of the Mud Hens in Toledo dated back to April 15-17, 2013.

MCRAE MASTERFUL: Tribe hurler Alex McRae fired seven shutout innings last night, the second time in his career where he's posted that many scoreless frames in a single start (also: June 3, 2017 with Double-A Altoona at Bowie).

HAPPIER HOMECOMING: Tonight's starter, J.T. Brubaker, will pitch in his home state for a third time this summer. The Tecumseh HS product (New Carlisle, OH) made his first "homecoming appearance" on April 18 with Altoona at Akron, where he earned the win with six innings of one-run ball. He scattered four hits and one walk with eight punchouts. His second Ohio outing was on June 17 at Huntington Park against the Clippers. He exited that start after three frames, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. In those two starts combined, he's 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA (3 ER/9.0 IP, three walks and 10 strikeouts.

KELLER TIME: Mitch Keller, Pittsburgh's No. 1 prospect and No. 12 in all of baseball according to Baseball America, is set to make his Triple-A debut on Saturday. The right-hander went 9-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 14 starts for Double-A Altoona this year, including a superb June that saw him go 4-0 with a 0.69 ERA (2 ER/26.0 IP) and .131 average against (11-for-84) in the Eastern League. Keller, 22, was selected by Pittsburgh in the second round (64th overall) in the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a 2017 MiLB.com Organization All-Star and was an Arizona Fall League Rising Star and All-Prospect Team member last fall. He was the Pirates No. 2 prospect and No. 22 overall by Baseball America entering the 2017 campaign.

BY THE NUMBERS - .325: OF Jason Martin joins Indy today from Double-A Altoona, where he hit .325 (83-for-255) with nine homers, five triples and 13 doubles. He also drove in 34 runs, scored 49 times and swiped seven stolen bases. He led the team in runs scored, hits, total bases (133), walks (28), OBP (.392), SLG (.522) and OPS (.917). His .325 average was fifth in the Eastern League.

KRAMER KEEPIN' IT REAL: Kevin Kramer has doubled in four straight games and has an extra-base hit in six of eight, 10 of 15 and 14 of his last 23 games overall. His double in the second inning last night helped him set a new personal mark; he had never recorded an XBH in four straight games in his career. He has 34 XBH (20 2B, 3 3B, 11 HR) in 71 games this season, second most in the IL. After batting just .238 (25-for-105) with 10 XBH (4 HR, 1 3B, 5 2B) in 28 May games, Kramer has heated up with a .330 average (29-for-88) and 19 XBH (6 HR, 2 3B, 11 2B) in 24 June contests. He and Triple-A Reno outfielder Socrates Brito are the only players in Minor League Baseball with 19 XBH since the calendar flipped to June.

JUNE PLAYER OF THE MONTH CANDIDATE: On top of his .330 average and 19 XBH this month, Kramer leads all International League qualifiers in June with 61 total bases, a .705 slugging percentage and 1.080 OPS. He is also second in RBI (21) and tied for second in home runs (6) this month, as well. He has hit safely in 17 of his 24 games this month, with a team-high 11 multi-hit performances during that span (Jordan Luplow is second with seven multi-hit games in June).

LUPLOW ON FIRE: Jordan Luplow has hit safely in 19 of his last 22 overall. He is batting .419 (18-for-43) with two homers, five doubles, eight RBI, eight runs scored and 10 walks against just five strikeouts over his last 13 games. After hitting just .180 (11-for-61) with one double and one triple in 18 April games, Luplow has batted .311 (59-for-188) with 30 extra-base hits, 33 RBI and 26 runs scored in 52 games since May 1. His .957 OPS since May 1 is second in the IL behind Toledo's Ronny Rodriguez (1.013) and 10th in Triple-A. All seven of his home runs with Indy have come on the road.

A BAKER'S DOZEN: Indy catcher Ryan Lavarnway is riding a season-high 13-game hitting streak into tonight's game. He is batting .354 (17-for-48) during his streak with all four of his home runs coming since June 3. He has reached base safely in 18 straight and 24 of his last 25 games overall dating back to May 2.
