RailRiders Take Finale at Coca-Cola Park
June 28, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs fell behind early and had their offense stifled Thursday as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders took the final contest in a four-game series 6-3 at Coca-Cola Park. The Pigs' lead in the IL North was cut the four games as the teams split the series.
The RailRiders found the first four runs of the night against Ton Eshelman (1-7), starting with a lead-off home run from Billy McKinney in the second inning. They brought across three more in the third thanks to doubles from Clint Frazier and Tyler Austin.
Joey Meneses cut the 4-0 lead in half, when he smacked his 14th home run of the season over the right field wall to plate two runs. The Pigs threatened plenty of times through the night, but the RailRiders pitching staff kept the Pigs mostly quiet for the rest of the evening.
Nestor Cortes (2-3) earned the victory after allowing only three hits over seven innings, including the Meneses home run. The RailRiders offense ended up giving him a couple of more insurance runs in the sixth, with consecutive RBI singles from Fraizer and Brandon Drury. At the end of the night, four different RailRiders had posted multi-hit games.
The Pigs will hit the road for a weekend series as they make the trip to Frontier Field to face the Rochester Red Wings. Ranger Suarez will make his Triple-A debut tomorrow evening when he takes the mound at 7:05 p.m.
The IronPigs return to Coca-Cola Park on Monday when they welcome the Syracuse Chiefs for a short two-game set. Prior to the game, 3,000 adults (18 and over) will receive a Patriotic T-Shirt, and all fans can bring their furry friends for another TD Bank Dog Day.
