Bailey Tosses Seven Innings as Bats Lose, 3-2

TOLEDO, Ohio - After a wild 11-10 win last night, the Louisville Bats (30-45) dropped the opening game of a four-game series to the Toledo Mud Hens (45-33) by a 3-2 score on Thursday at Fifth Third Field.

Right-hander Homer Bailey (0-2, 8.44) got the loss in his third rehab start with Louisville this season, tossing his first quality start for the Bats tonight. He went 7.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on three solo home runs, six hits, while walking none and striking out three. The right-hander threw 100 pitches, 69 for strikes.

Mike Gerber hit a solo home run in the second to give the Mud Hens a 1-0 lead, with Louisville tying the game up in the third on a Phillip Ervin sacrifice fly. The Bats would take a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI hit by Joe Hudson, who extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Toledo tied it up on a Jarrod Saltalamacchia solo homer in the fifth, and took the lead on Mikie Mahtook's home run in the sixth.

Kyle Dowdy (4-3, 3.97) got the win for Toledo, with the right-hander going 6.0 innings and giving up just two earned runs on five hits. Right-hander Austin Brice tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for Louisville, while Victor Alcantara notched his third save of the season for Toledo.

The Bats and Mud Hens are back at it tomorrow, with left-hander Cody Reed (2-5, 3.92) set to pitch for Louisville. Toledo is yet to announce a starting pitcher, with first pitch scheduled Friday night for 7:05 p.m.
