Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs have taken two out of three from the RailRiders this week and can earn a series win with a victory tonight.
PITCHING MATCHUP Tom Eshelman gets the start for Lehigh Valley against Nestor Cortes for the RailRiders. Tonight's pitching matchup is presented by Allentown Family Foot Care, which provides the latest in medical and surgical treatments. For more information, visit affc.com.
Tom Eshelman is coming off back-to-back solid starts for Lehigh Valley. The righty has gone five innings in his last two starts and allowed just one earned run combined between them. Left-hander Nestor Cortes is making his third start of the season against the IronPigs. Overall, Cortes is 1-3 in seven starts in Triple-A this season.
LAST GAME Drew Anderson tossed seven strong innings in the game, allowed just five hits, and struck out four. Anderson allowed a pair of solo home runs in the game but surrendered just one hit in his final three innings. Anderson has gone at least 6 2/3 innings and allowed no more than two earned runs in his last three outings. He is 3-0 in those starts with a 1.31 ERA.
The Pigs offense responded in the bottom of the first inning after the RailRiders took a 1-0 lead. RailRiders starter AJ Cole (0-1), who was making a Good Shepherd rehab start, did not record an out and allowed three runs in the inning. A go-ahead two run single by Joey Meneses proved to be the game winner despite being in the first inning.
HEAD-TO-HEAD With a victory tonight the Pigs can even the Iron Rail Rivalry. Through 15 games this season the RailRiders lead the series 8-7. Including tonight, the Pigs and Riders will meet five more times to decide who wins the Iron Rail Rivalry of 2018.
