Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Third baseman Matt Skole launched two home runs to power the Charlotte Knights past the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 6-5 on Thursday night in the opening game of a four-game series from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.
Charlotte's offense kicked-off the four-game homestand against the Stripers with help from Skole, who belted two solo home runs en route to a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Thursday's game was Skole's second multi-homer outing of the 2018 season. He also homered twice in a game on May 22nd at BB&T Ballpark against the Norfolk Tides.
Shortstop José RondÃ"n joined in on the home run fest when he took Gwinnett RHP Lucas Sims deep in the third inning with a two-run blast. The home run was RondÃ"n's seventh of the season. Overall, the Charlotte offense tallied eight extra-base hits on the night -- three home runs and five doubles -- en route to their third win over their last five games. Catcher Seby Zavala also chipped in with two RBIs on the night.
RHP Jordan Stephens started for the Knights and allowed four runs on five hits over five innings. LHP Aaron Bummer (1-2, 5.00) picked up his first win of the season after pitching a scoreless seventh inning. RHP Ian Hamilton shut the door in the ninth for Charlotte, picking up his second save on the season in the process.
The Knights will continue their four-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Friday with a 7:04 p.m. game. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. and the Knights will light-up the Uptown Charlotte skyline with post-game fireworks courtesy of BB&T and News Talk 1110 WBT. Pre-game radio coverage is set for 6:50 p.m. from BB&T Ballpark. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
