From the Notes

ABOUT YESTERDAY: The Indians traveled to International League West Division rival Louisville for a bout with the Bats and fell, 3-1. Starter Austin Coley made it through four innings unscathed before allowing two Louisville runs in the fifth inning, his final frame on the hill. The Tribe responded with a run of their own a half-inning later when Kevin Kramer scored on a double-play ball from Jacob Stallings, but added no more and stranded four runners over the final three innings. With the help of a fielding error, the Bats plated one for insurance in the eighth inning, the final run of the game. Indy put together 10 hits compared to Louisville's eight, marking the second loss of the season while out-hitting the opponent. Tribe hitters went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

APRIL SHOWERS, MAY FLOWERS: Jordan Luplow had an uncharacteristic April, batting just .180 by the month's end. Since May 1, the slugger has hit safely in all but one game. Luplow has totaled 10 hits through the first seven games of May, one shy of his 11 hits in all of April. He's put forth multi-hit efforts in four of the last six games, including a current three-game streak, to up his season batting average to .263. Not to mention he's already matched his RBI count with six and doubled his extra-base hit total from last month by belting two doubles and two homers so far in May.

RUN 'EM: Monday at Louisville, the Tribe stole three bases, giving them four games this season with at least three stolen bags. The season-high mark came at home on April 20 against Charlotte with five. Over the last seven games, four Indians have swiped more than one base, two more than any other team. Only one other team has multiple players with two-plus steals in that time frame (Columbus, 2). Kevin Newman added three stolen bases through the past seven games to move into a tie for the team lead, matching Austin Meadows' five.

IN A BIT OF A PINCH: After nine attempts from seven different batters this season, Eric Wood finally notched the first hit from a pinch hitter on Monday night, singling for Dovydas Neverauskas in the seventh inning. In 2017, the Tribe did not even use a pinch hitter until May 13 and didn't register a hit from one until May 19. Wood has entered the last three games as a pinch hitter and the hit was his first in six games.

OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY: Indy sits right at the top of the league in several offensive categories. The Indians lead the IL in average (.269), doubles (72) and triples (12), all by decent margins. They also rank second in slugging percentage (.409) and OPS (.736) and boast the second lowest mark for strikeouts (201). Overall, Indy holds a top-five spot in the league in seven offensive categories.

WELCOME, WYATT: Wyatt Mathisen was transferred from Double-A Altoona to Indy on Monday, giving him his first expe-rience with a Triple-A club. In 12 games with Altoona this season, he slashed .385/.585/.692. All three of those marks led the Curve at the time of his promotion. Half of his 10 hits in those 12 games went for extra bases -- three doubles, a triple and a homer -- and the 24-year-old first baseman walked 11 times compared to seven strikeouts. Against right-handed pitching, Mathisen is raking with a .421 average and a 1.297 OPS.
