Rochester Red Wings News Release
Aaron Slegers allowed one run over 7.0 innings and James Ramsey drove in the go-ahead run in the 5th inning as the Rochester Red Wings beat the Buffalo Bisons 2-1 Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field.
Slegers (3-1) surrendered just four hits and one walk while striking out five. The Red Wings (14-13) are over .500 for the first time since they were 4-3 on April 16.
Joe Biagini (0-2) took the tough-luck loss for the Bisons (11-12), who have now lost back-to-back games in this series after winning four straight. Biagini was charged with two runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
The game was scoreless through three frames and the Wings were being no-hit. Jermaine Curtis drew one of his three walks in the game leading off the 4th and advanced to third on Jake Cave's one-out single. Kennys Vargas scored Curtis with a sac fly to give Rochester a 1-0 lead. Buffalo tied the game in the bottom half as Tim Lopes doubled to open the frame and scored two batters later on a groundout.
The Red Wings regained the lead in the 5th as Willians Astudillo doubled to start the inning and scored two batters later on a Ramsey RBI double. Ramsey would try to score on a single by the next batter Jimmy Kerrigan but was thrown out at the plate.
Slegers would face the minimum in his last three innings, working perfect frames in the 5th and 6th and erasing a one-out single in the 7th with a double play.
Buffalo's best chance to tie the game came in the 8th against Tyler Duffey as Darnell Sweeney walked and advanced to second with one out following a stolen base but Duffey was able to get out of the inning.
John Curtiss needed just seven pitches to toss a perfect 9th inning to secure his first save of the season.
Both teams combined for just nine total hits as the game was played in a crisp 2 hours, 14 minutes. The Red Wings will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
