Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Brandon Leibrandt (2-0) continued his dazzling start to 2018, throwing five scoreless frames Tuesday while allowing only four hits, to guide Lehigh Valley to a 4-1 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox at Coca Cola Park. The win places the IronPigs atop the International League North Division for the first time since April 8.
Leibrandt has now thrown 25.2 consecutive scoreless innings, the second longest stretch in IronPigs history, behind the 27 innings thrown by Les Walrond in the 2008 season.
Marcus Walden (0-1) was sluggish early for Pawtucket, allowing a run in the first after walking the bases loaded. The Pigs brought two more runs across an inning later thanks to a double from Alexi Amarista and an RBI from Collin Cowgill. Walden left the game in the second when Robby Scott entered to record the final out.
Knuckleballer Steven Wright, making a Good Shepherd rehab appearance, worked the rest of the contest, allowing only one more run when Andrew Pullin grounded out to score Dylan Cozens in the third inning.
Jake Thompson and Tom Windle combined for three scoreless innings before Ranfi Casimiro allowed a run across in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Dan Butler. Pedro Beato entered the game with two outs and the tying run at the plate, but retired Mike Miller to earn his International League leading ninth save.
Offensively, the Pigs were led by Andrew Pullin, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and one driven in.
Lehigh Valley looks for the sweep Wednesday morning with an Education Day showcase featuring Enyel De Los Santos (3-0, 1.07 ERA) vs. Jalen Beeks (2-1, 1.71) First Pitch is scheduled for 10:35 a.m.
