Clippers Drop Game Two in Toledo

Columbus Clippers News Release
The Clippers' bats remained cool today at Fifth Third Field, as they were shut out by the Toledo Mud Hens, dropping game two of their four game series 2-0.
The Mud Hens took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Mikie Mahtook roped a two-out double off Clippers starter Shane Bieber to set up Dawel Lugo, who singled him home for a 1-0 advantage.
Toledo starter Drew VerHagen threw four perfect innings, striking out eight, but was lifted after that due to his status as an on-call reliever for the Mud Hens' parent club, the Detroit Tigers.
The perfect game came to an end in the sixth inning when Jon Berti stroked a two-out single off Toledo reliever A.J. Ladwig. The Clippers couldn't push him across, though, as Ladwig induced a Francisco Mejia pop out to end the frame.
The Clippers threatened in the seventh as Melky Cabrera started things off with a single and Brandon Barnes followed with a booming double off the wall after a 10-pitch at bat. The next batter, Nellie Rodriguez, grounded to third, but Cabrera was caught at the plate trying to score, which maintained the 1-0 Toledo lead.
Former Clipper Ronny Rodriguez doubled the Mud Hens' lead in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun off Bieber.
Bieber's day would be done one batter later, making it back-to-back solid starts in the first two appearances of his Clippers career. He tossed six and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, while avoiding a walk and striking out four.
The Clippers couldn't put together enough offense to get on the board for the rest of the game as Louis Coleman closed things out for Toledo to win it 2-0.
The Clippers and Mud Hens will go to battle once more tomorrow at Fifth Third Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
