LAST TIME OUT: Trailing in the top of the 5th inning and being shut down by the top pitching prospect in the Washington Nationals organization, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders bats came alive to rally for an 8-3 win.

RHP Erick Fedde began the night by striking out eight men and scattering a pair of hits over the first four innings, but then Scranton put the first five men on in the 5th inning to spark a rally. The 5th inning was punctuated by a two-run double by Tyler Wade (2-for-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI), a bases-loaded walk by Mike Ford (1-for-2, 3 RBI, 2 BB) and then a go-ahead, two-run single by Kyle Higashioka (1-for-4, 2 RBI) off reliever David Goforth to take the lead for good. The RailRiders offense added three more runs in the 7th inning to extend their lead and make it comfortable for their pitching staff down the stretch.

Camarena (2-1) earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Syracuse plated a run off him in the 3rd inning with an RBI double by Adrian Sanchez, in which he was thrown out trying to make it to third base for a triple. They added two more of the starter an inning later when Jacob Wilson doubled home Matt Reynolds and Matt Hague to extend the lead. Camarena settled-down and retired the final five men he faced in order, to finish his night.

The win snaps an eight-game road losing streak for SWB dating back to a rain-shortened, 4-3 win over the Charlotte Knights April 15.

AN AWAKENING: Monday night featured an explosive eight runs on 10 hits in an 8-3 win for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders over the Syracuse Chiefs. In the nine games leading up to that victory, the RailRiders offense had been rather sluggish. They had combined for 20 runs (2.2/game) on 58 hits (6.4/game) and only once had scored more than four runs in a game.

FALLING BEHIND EARLY...: Sunday afternoon, the Pawtucket Red Sox scored their lone two runs of the game in the 1st inning on a pair of sacrafice flies off starting pitcher LHP Justus Sheffield. Even though it was just his first career start with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, it continues a trend by RailRiders starters this season in which they allow early runs. In the first two innings of games this season, opponents are outscoring the RailRiders 37-12 (-25) which has immediately put SWB in an early hole. In fact, of the 30 games this season the opponent has scored first only 17 times (57%), but the RailRiders were 4-12 when allowing the first run of the game before Monday's comeback 8-3 win.

...MAKING IT CLOSE LATE: Meanwhile, the RailRiders are doing their best to make a run at teams when trailing in the later innings. SWB is +30 in run differential in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings, outscoring their opponents 51-21 in that time. Despite those impressive numbers, the RailRiders are just 2-15 when trailing after six innings and 1-12 when trailing after eight innings -- the lone comeback win in the 9th inning being the five-run bottom of the 9th on Opening Night in which Abiatal Avelino capped a 6-5 win with a walk-off three-run home run.

SHUTOUTS A-PLENTY: The Pawtucket Red Sox shutout the RailRiders for the second straight day Sunday afternoon, 2-0. It marks the fourth time in the last nine games that the RailRiders have been shutout, and it is the sixth time this season in 29 games they've been blanked (once every 4.8 games). Out of the 120 full-season Minor League Baseball teams, only Myrtle Beach (A+, CHC) has been shutout more with seven. Beyond that, only SWB, Pawtucket (AAA, BOS), Lehigh Valley (AAA, PHI) and Frederick (A+, BAL) have been shutout even six times this season.
