Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs ended a six-game losing streak on Tuesday night with a 4-1 win against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at NBT Bank Stadium. Chiefs pitchers combined for ten strikeouts, and Irving Falu collected two hits and two RBIs in the win.
Syracuse (15-14) scored first in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Matt Hague singled. Jacob Wilson followed with a double into the right-field corner that scored Hague from first to put Syracuse in front, 1-0.
The Chiefs added to their lead in the third. Hunter Jones led off with a double, advanced to third base on a Rafael Bautista sacrifice bunt, and scored on an Adrian Sanchez sacrifice fly to right field to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (14-17) scored its lone run of the game in the top of the fourth. Clint Frazier began the inning with a single. Mike Ford then worked a walk to put runners on first and second base. On an Erick Kratz fly out to right field, Frazier tagged up and moved to third base, and scored on Zack Zehner's RBI double to trim the Chiefs' lead to one.
Syracuse extended its lead in the sixth. With two outs, Matt Reynolds, Hague, and Wilson all singled to load the bases. Falu then singled to right field, scoring both Reynolds and Hague for a 4-1 Syracuse advantage.
Chiefs starting pitcher Edwin Jackson allowed just one run in six innings on the mound while striking out eight batters. Syracuse relievers Matt Grace, on Major League rehab, Jimmy Cordero, and Austin Adams each pitched one inning, combining for three hitless frames with just one baserunner.
